The Top 14 Projects That Didn’t Make it Onto JustBuildStuff.com

We have a lot of ideas for projects here at Just Build Stuff and some of them are ideas that for some reason or another we have decided not to build and thus I present you with the top 14 projects that www.justbuildtuff.com decided not to build.

  1. The invisible remote- You thought your remote was difficult to find before, wait until you try our invisible remote developed using Top Secret cloaking fromthe British Military. It is shown in the photo below.
  2. A TV that always turns on with the volume turned all of the way up and turned to a channel of static and fuzz.
  3. The Zune Music player- Oh sorry somebody already made this.
  4. A shoe with a preinstalled piece of pea gravel- It is psychologically easier to deal with that pebble in you shoe when you know it’s supposed to be there.
  5. The Pet Wolverine- They don’t like being called fluffy and you will never have to worry about intruders again!
  6. The gas powered toothbrush- I know you are sick of recharging those batteries and the gas powered lawnmower and chainsaw that you have out in your garage do a great job, but think of the price of gas and how much more you would have to pay just to brush your teeth. Just wait, there will be a fusion-powered toothbrush released eventually and you can get that.
  7. Rogaine Back, Chest and Underarm Formula- For those that want to look like they are wearing a shirt, eve when they are not!
  8. A phone connected directly to the Bat Cave- Just remember that Bat Man hates prank calls.
  9. Build your own language- Kind of like Klingon or how Tolkien created the Elvish language you can create your own language that only you can understand. Be prepared to get funny looks the next time you say “Fromble hicta Zababli!” and expect to get a burger and fries.
  10. Sawdust Salad- Ya, a tree is a plant and sawdust comes from trees so it is just natural that somebody sooner or later will start trying to eat sawdust salads, I hope they have lots of salad dressing
  11. The magnetic sock and metal shoe combo pack- Never have to tie or strap your shoe on again, the metal shoe sticks tightly against the magnetic sock giving you maximum shoe sock bonding.
  12. The ice cream swimming pool- Enjoy a dip into nice cool ice cream filled swimming pool on a hot day. Nothing beats that sticky dried ice cream feeling after you get out of the pool and dry off.
  13. Static Electricity Hair-Do Machine- Use the amazing power of static electricity to create the most interesting hair styles you’ve seen in a long time, static electricity adds body to your hair without the need for expensive chemicals. Plus as an added bonus you’ll get a sparking sensation whenever you touch a grounded surface!
  14. The Catapult Travel System- Tired of paying high gas prices? Why not try to strap yourself onto this high-powered catapult and lunch yourself to work, the landing might be a little tricky so there is a chance that you will only be able to try it once.

Paint the Flowers on the Wall!

The other day my family and I went to our local craft store to pick up some supplies. When we were walking around, we noticed some unpainted, flower shaped peg hooks for less than a dollar each. We knew they would look great on the wall of our daughter’s room. Plus they help us keep her stuff organized! Right now she has all of her purses hanging from them. They would also be great for holding a school bag, a coat, a bath robe, etc.

This is a fun and simple project. We didn’t actually build the flowers, but we still put a little bit of our own touch on them by painting them ourselves.

And the final picture shows how cute they look on the wall!

Carve A Pumpkin!

Trick Or Treat

After getting lots of candy, carving a pumpkin is definitely the funnest part of Halloween. This year our www.justbuildstuff.com pumpkin is pretty simple, we just carved the phrase “Trick or Treat?” into the pumpkin.

To make the pattern used to cut the words from, we printed out the words on a sheet of 8.5″ X 11″ paper (you can pick the font and size to suit your own tastes). Then we taped the words to the pumpkin.

Words on PaperWords on Pumpkin

To give us an outline on the pumpkin to cut from we poked holes through the paper to leave a pattern that we could cut along. After we poke the hole, we use a little saw and a knife to cut the letters out.

After all the letters are cut we clean out the inside of the pumpkin, saving the seeds for roasting, then we put a light inside the pumpkin and watch it glow!

Trick-or-Treat Memory Bag

This post explains how to make a craft that is both practical and sentimental – a trick-or-treat memory bag. Once again, my subscription to Family Fun magazine provided me with a great idea for a holiday craft. To create this item you will need a plain canvas bag and either permanent markers or fabric paint. Simply lie out the canvas bag and let your artistic talent go to work as you draw a Halloween design. As my daughter is still very young, I am making a bag for her. I decided that I would decorate her trick-or-treat bag by documenting what her Halloween costume is each year. In the future, she can look back at all of her costumes and remember what she dressed up as in the past. Or, if you are having a Halloween party, it might be fun to provide a canvas bag to each of the partygoers and have each of them autograph the bag and list their costume.

Halloween is a time of spooky fun and imagination. When I was young, I had so much fun dreaming up with what I wanted to be. This bag helps document the fun and creativity of a child and is a great tradition to add to anyone’s Halloween.

Build a Toy Truck From Scrap Wood!

Unpainted Truck

The inspiration for this project was the scrap piece of 2 X 4 shown in the photo below. I wanted to try to think of something fun to use it for and the idea of turning it into a toy truck struck me.

TWO BY FOUR

To build this toy truck the first thing I did was to make a 30 degree miter cut at one end of the 2 X 4. Then I made a straight 90 degree cut about 1.5 inches back from that. The last cut I made was to make a 7 inch long block to be used as the base of the truck. The photo below should offer some clarification with the smaller mitered piece (the cab) sitting on top of the base piece.

Cut Pieces

To clean up the pieces and remove the possiblities of slivers I sanded the boards smooth with my random orbit sander and 100 grit sand paper. Sanding

After I finished sanding I placed the cab block about 1.25 inches back from the front of the base. I then glued and nailed it down to the base using wood glue and 2 inch brad nails.

Now that the body of the truck is ready, it’s time to add the wheels. The wheels are just 1.5″ wooden wheels that can be found at most craft stores. I attached them using #8 whasher head screws.

With Wheels

In the next posting we will give the truck a paint job!
